Address by the Minister for Agriculture and Land affairs, the Hon. Ms. Lulu Xingwana (MP): Delivered on behalf of the Minister by Mr. Jan Serfontein: MEC for Agriculture, Conservation and Environment, North West Province: Land hand over celebration of the Ba-Mogopa-Ba-Bethanie Community, 14 June 2008

This year marks the 95th anniversary since the promulgation of the Natives Land Act of 1913 which resulted in the majority of black people in South Africa loosing their land rights. As we commemorate this sad event in the history of our country we celebrate the progress made by our democratic government in providing redress for the victims of the land dispossessions perpetuated by the previous government. Across the various Provinces senior officials from the Department of Land Affairs will be handing over land to restitution beneficiaries as part of an intensified drive to speed up land delivery during the month of June which has been earmarked as land month.
