In both Australia and New Zealand, communities have opted to use their resources to establish economic, cultural, social and environmental projects which are conducted strictly along business lines for the greater benefit of the community. Community trusts are established and resources are channelled into education, social programmes and employment creation. The concept of community assets is emphasised and there is an attempt to move away from creating dependency and a reliance on welfare from the State. |
